True New Orleans experience

There was the gumbo, jumbalaya, red beans and rice, crab pasta.
Then today we completed our true Orleans experience. For lunch we went on a run to get the famous Po' Boy. Most of us had the shrimp and few had the catfish. It was so good! Then instead of the Sonic run, we stopped to buy CRAWFISH. We had a demonstration and everything!

Then we made a late night run to Cafe Du Monde for beignets. Another thing to check off the list

Why did we let the guy cook?

There is never a dull moment with David. "Its not me, its the burgers that gonna burn the house down." No more needs to be said. In the end dinner was good. Hot dogs, hamburgers, corn, andpotatoes.

And oh yea, turning the fire alarm off only took 5 minutes

How many people does it take to install medicine cabinets?

To tell the truth, we dont know either. But it clearly took like 4 people for us to do it. But if you need 1 installed call Kerri, Sarah, or Nikita. Today those three pretty much stayed with 1 house through partial completion. While Vanessa and Alane worked on building front porch steps. Diana and Nicole worked on building rails and David finished painting doors but was also found with the caulking gun again.

Sadly no Sonic today...

It stays here

What happens in New Orleans stays in New Orleans.... And thats all we're saying about thursday night.... A good time was had!

Mix & mingle

Habitat hosted a cookout after the long work day. It was their way to bring all the collegiate groups together. Menu: red beans and rice, salad, and bread. As for mixing and mingling it seems we stuck to our comfort zone and hung out with the other group from our work site. But we are now official because we got our t-shirts.
And of course we found a sonic to stop at on our way to the cookout. Its sad but we're addicted and now we only have 1 more day of it.

Finishing touches

Day three was spent putting finishing touches on the houses. Touch up painting, spackling, caulking, installing door knobs, and sweeping/mopping. The big task of today was cutting and nailing quarter-rounds. You will have to ask Kerri and Sarah just how hard that can be.

Another inside day complete...

Door knobs

From the words of Nikita- who knew installing door knobs could be so hard! It looked and sounded so easy. When you turn your door knobs at home, you just dont know the time and effort it took to be able to enjoy that luxury. All i know is, next time i turn a door knob, I will appreciate it all the more.

Whats for dinner?

Taco's anyone? Diana and Nicole took the lead on making dinner a hit. Tortilla chips, salsa, cheese dips, taco meat, and all the fixings. Lets not forget about Kerri's amazing guacamole!!! Team work to make dinner, made it even better. Everyone was so full and tired that we tabled going out. The remainder of the night was spent talking, dancing, and playing UNO.

Sand and Fishing

Yes thats right, we found our way to the beach! It was awesome to sit in the sand and get our feet wet after a long day of work. The scenery was beautiful and we got to hang out with the other college group from our site. Nikita got to cast a fishing rod (didnt catch anything though). It was a nice way to end the day.

Inside work

The second day of work was spent mostly indoors. Diana and Nicole became master painters. Nikita became a master power driller and along with Sarah and Kerri became an expert at shelfing. David was found all day with a caulking gun. While Vanessa and Alaine stayed doing outside work putting up siding. The day seemed to go by much faster....

And then there was 8. Kerri's dad left us today and no we didnt vote him off. He had to get back to work. We will miss him because he was like another project manager.
